El miércoles por la mañana, el Estado de Illinois proporcionó una actualización sobre el sitio del nuevo albergue para migrantes y proporcionó también nueva zona de llegada y servicios. “El Estado está determinado a utilizar sus limitados recursos tan eficientemente como sea posible, ayudando a quienes buscan asilo a establecerse en Illinois y lograr su independencia”, dijo el Gobernador JB Pritzker. “Continuaremos asegurando que sean tratados con dignidad y compasión, mientras pedimos una mayor coordinación y fondos del gobierno federal para proveer una solución federal a este reto federal”.

El Estado anunció que su nuevo centro de admisión estará ubicado junto con la zona de llegada de autobuses de la ciudad de Chicago para maximizar la eficiencia, con seis tiendas de campaña con calefacción actualmente en construcción en el sitio y que se espera que abran en las próximas semanas. El sitio conectará a los recién llegados con servicios y ayuda a quienes tienen patrocinadores o un destino final alterno en su viaje. El Estado ha estado patrocinando New Life Centers of Chicagoland y Caridades Católicas de la Arquidiócesis de Chicago para brindar apoyo en la zona de llegada del autobús, desde principios de noviembre.

En cuanto al lugar de albergue, el Estado de Illinois continúa esta semana trabajando en el albergue de 220 personas localizado en La Villita que era antes un antiguo CVS. Mientras tanto, el Estado se está asociando también con New Life Centers para operar un albergue temporal en un hotel de Chicago para apoyar a las familias que llegaron durante las recientes fiestas. Los que están en este albergue temporal pasarán al albergue de La Villita, que se espera abra este mes. El Estado continúa trabajando con la Ciudad para determinar donde pueden dirigirse mejor los recursos del Estado para apoyar capacidad adicional de albergue.

En diciembre, el Estado y Greater Chicago Food Depository anunciaron una inversión de $4 millones para dar más comidas a los que buscan asilo en los albergues de la Ciudad de Chicago hasta el fin de año. Los fondos se anunciaron mientras la Ciudad solucionaba retrasos en su proceso de adquisiciones. El 15 de enero, la Ciudad asumirá la responsabilidad de alimentar a los solicitantes de asilo en los refugios de la Ciudad.

Se han enviado autobuses fuera de Chicago, a ciudades del Norte de Illinois, como Aurora y Elgin. El Estado se asoció con la Ciudad para dar guía a las municipalidades impactadas y apoyo en el transporte de los recién llegados a zonas de llegada en Chicago. El fin de semana del Año Nuevo, Texas envió un avión a Rockford con más de 350 recién llegados.

“En IDHS – tenemos un mensaje para todos los residentes de Illinois – no importa cuanto tiempo hayan vivido aquí: La ayuda está aquí. Tomamos ese mensaje muy en serio y estamos en primera línea para brindar servicios integrales y apoyo a nuestros recién llegados”, dijo Dulce M. Quintero, Secretaria Designada del IDHS.

El Procurador General Kwame Raoul exhortó a los residentes de Illinois a tener cuidado con los estafadores telefónicos que usan potencialmente la Inteligencia Artificial (AI) para imitar la voz de un ser querido. Los estafadores han utilizado durante mucho tiempo la estratagema de afirmar que un ser querido está en problemas para convencer a la persona de que envíe un pago o comparta información personal. En un giro nuevo e inquietante de esta estafa, los delincuentes están utilizando tecnología de inteligencia artificial para imitar la voz del familiar de la persona, por lo que parece que la persona está buscando ayuda. El Fiscal General Raoul identificó algunas señales de alerta a las que los consumidores deben estar atentos para evitar estafas comunes:

• Los Estafadores te Buscan. Pueden enviarte un correo electrónico o un mensaje de texto que no hayas solicitado, llamarte o tocar a tu puerta. Ten cuidado si alguien con quien no te comunicaste se acerca a ti para venderte algo o solicitarte información personal.

• Los Estafadores te Presionan para que Actúes Rápidamente. Su meta es que mandes el pago antes de que tengas oportunidad de pensar o discutirlo con un miembro o amigo de la familia en quien confías.

• Los Estafadores Quieren tu Información Personal. Pueden alegar ser del IRS, la Administración del Seguro Social, el Servicio Postal de E.U., tu proveedor de electricidad, un banco o cualquiera en quien puedas confiar. Si eres un cliente, estas entidades tienen ya tu información y no necesitan que tú se las des. Si son legítimos, tienen una forma específica y familiar de comunicarse contigo o pedirte un pago.

• Los estafadores Quieren que Pagues de Forma Inusual. Pueden pedirte que compres una tarjeta de regalo y les leas los números, que gires el dinero, que abras una cuenta de criptomonedas o uses una aplicación ‘peer-to-peer’ para que les envíes el dinero directamente a ellos. Una vez que leas los números de la tarjeta, gires el dinero o toques ‘send’ en la aplicación peer-to-peer es imposible que recuperes tu dinero.

Are you ready to prioritize your well-being in the New Year? Start Small
Make resolutions that you think you can keep. If, for example, your aim is to exercise more frequently, schedule three or four days a week at the gym instead of seven. If you would like to eat healthier, try replacing dessert with something else you enjoy, like fruit or yogurt, instead of seeing your diet as a form of punishment.

Don’t Beat Yourself Up
Perfection is unattainable. Remember that minor missteps when reaching your goals are completely normal and OK. Don’t give up completely because you ate a brownie and broke your diet, or skipped the gym for a week because you were busy. Everyone has ups and downs; resolve to recover from your mistakes and get back on track.

Control What You Can, Not What You Cannot
Research shows that feeling in control helps when managing stress and goals that are impossible will only create anxiety. When you’re setting goals, use the SMART formula. SMART stands for specific, measurable, attainable, realistic and time-bound. Here’s an example: I will go for a 10-minute walk around the block, every weekday, after lunch.

Change One Behavior at a Time 
Unhealthy behaviors develop over the course of time. Thus, replacing unhealthy behaviors with healthy ones requires time. Don’t get overwhelmed and think that you have to reassess everything in your life. Instead, work toward changing one thing at a time.

Create a Vision Board
A vision board is simply creating a compelling statement of who you are and what health-promoting, life-giving behaviors you want to practice consistently. Research has shown that self-change is a staged process. We move from not thinking about changing a behavior, to thinking about it, to planning to change, and then testing out ways to do it before we actually start.
